What's HD-CVI camera, advantages of HD-CVI technology

Solution

Until now, analog video surveillance system has fundamental advantages over other technologies as its low cost and the fact that permitted to benefit from infrastructure already deployed using streaming media and traditional mechanisms in the world of video surveillance. However, the standards of high definition video to which evolves the industry were so far out of reach of analog solutions.

 HD-CVI Technology

HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface, or interface composed of high-definition Video) is a technology that aims to overcome this inconvenience, adding to the features of the analog devices offering HD quality images and providing a customizable solution to all kinds of video surveillance requirements and applications.

Typically, the video signal transmitting in a traditional analog system through coaxial cable has a format known as CVBS or, simply, composite video. This format only allows to offer video (without possibility of adding audio signals) in standard definition, usually 576i PAL or 480i standard (960x576 or 960x480).

Taking into account the limitations of the CVBS signal, HDCVI represents a new approach aimed to offer your own the modern video surveillance solution without sacrificing those aspects that have helped popularize the analog technology, more affordable price and ease of installation.

The main features of HDCVI are:

Support for high-definition (1080p & 720p) resolutions: even the most demanding requirements can be satisfied with HDCVI equipment, which let you capture details which until now were only available to other technologies such as HD-SDI, or IP.

Greater transmission distance: HDCVI using a new modulation to transmit the signal, more immune to the own coaxial medium attenuation and noise and interference produced by other electromagnetic signals.

Combination of multiple signals in the same transmission coaxial cable: signals that are essential in any installation of video surveillance, i.e., video, audio and, even, the control signals, transmitted at the same time through the same coaxial cable, which greatly simplifies the deployment of new installations and lowers the cost of wiring. On the same analog signal which is used for the transmission of audio and video, HDCVI adds a two-way channel for the communication of control commands between the receiver and the emitting devices, enabling operations such as PTZ control, control of focus and sending alarms in real time, among others.

CVBS support: in addition to the resolutions 1080 p and 720 p high definition, HDCVI devices can also be configured to use the CVBS format at lower resolutions, so it is possible to use them in facilities that already they have previous equipment that does not support HDCVI.

To take advantage of the infrastructure already deployed, HDCVI does not require to modify the basic design of any installation of video surveillance based on analog technology. A HDCVI installation has the same appearance as a traditional installation, i.e. a topology star in which cameras are broadcasters and recording equipment, which occupies the center of the display, is the receiver.

The advantages of HD-CVI technology

Standard Analog vs HDCVI vs HD-SDI

The above graphs show how HDCVI is compared with traditional technologies so that you can see at a glance what brings in three fundamental aspects in any analog CCTV installation:

Quality: The most striking attribute of HDCVI is its ability to offer resolutions of high definition analog signals, allowing qualities above which provide Chambers of 1000TVL, the current maximum in conventional analog cameras. However, and despite the fact that HDCVI supports resolutions up to 1080 p, we have verified experimentally that the quality of a facility set to 1080 p HD-SDI is slightly higher because it is a digital technology.

Cost: One of the strengths of HDCVI is the cost. Especially in HDCVI devices able to offer resolutions of 720 p, the cost/quality ratio significantly improves with respect to conventional analog facilities.

Wiring: In terms of maximum wiring distances, HDCVI offers the best balance between the versatility of traditional analog signal and the quality of HD-SDI, with considerable distances and superior qualities.
